Prevent-A-Start Immobilizer Relay

Product Description and Principal Functions

An entire remote controlled engine immobilizer is built into a normal automotive relay housing. Any one or more of the vehicle’s original starter motor, fuel pump, fuel injection, relays, can be unplugged and replaced with a Prevent-A-Start relay. The engine of the vehicle will not start until the driver of the vehicle disarms the relay with the remote control unit on the key ring. Depressing the button on the remote control causes it to transmit, disarming only the vehicle to which it is coded.

Why does the product represent design excellence?

Car theft is an international problem. Many new vehicles are fitted with an engine immobilizer. There are however millions that are not and these vehicles are prime targets for thieves. Further, even vehicles that are fitted with original equipment systems, still sometimes fall prey to the thieves, as each vehicle is identical. Intimate knowledge, can lead to bypassing of the systems. An extra back up system unknown to the thief could certainly thwart even the expert.

Many new vehicles don’t have immobilizers and hence there is a very significant need for aftermarket engine immobilizers. Labor costs are high and the installation of an electronic security system tends to be expensive. Anything that can decrease labor content and increase reliability has the right ingredients for success.

By building and entire remote controlled immobilizer into a standard plug in automotive relay we have achieved 5 things:

  1. Almost no installation costs.  The immobilizer simply plugs in.
  2. Highest level of security.  The thief sees no flashing lights or any wires to join to bypass the system. He has no idea that there is any other security system in the vehicle and there is no clue to its presence.
  3. High reliability.  No wires to cut or solder.
  4. Low cost
  5. Ease of use.

The product is innovative and original. It represents some very clever electronic design to enable a random encrypted full remote controlled engine immobilizer to be built into a very small space such as a standard automotive relay housing. The design is still further complicated by the fact that almost all the vehicle’s relays are located in the engine compartment and therefore the Prevent-A-theft relay has to function over the temperature range –40 Deg F to +230 Deg F. Thousands of units tested in the USA market have shown excellent tolerance to this type of environment.

The immobilizer automatically arms and is disarmed by a small remote control transmitter.

Another very important feature of this immobilizer is that no installation is required. No wires have to be cut, so the installer does not jeopardize factory warranties.

One of the most significant downsides of other aftermarket fitted immobilizers is the quality of the fitment.

With the Prevent-A Start relay this problem is eliminated.

Additional technical specifications:

Operating voltage +9VDC to +15VDC.

When idle (armed) the unit draws 7.5mA, when activated (disarmed) the unit draws 80mA as the immobilization relay is energized to allow the engine to operate.

433MHz pulse width modulated

Any number of areas of immobilization.

20 amp relay capability - relays can break circuits carrying up to 20amps.

Temperature range –40 Deg F to +230 Deg F.

Auto arming - unit ensures vehicle is immobilized when not in use.

Complex secure 64 bit code - 1,800,000,000,000,000,000 individual combinations.

Cannot be scanned or code grabbed - The Prevent A Theft relay does not emit any code related RF transmissions.

The Prevent A Theft relay uses high security encryption to avoid code grabbing.

Relay electronics fully protected against EMC - electronic noise suppression circuitry ensures the internal electronic stability.

Will pass ISO 7637-1 and 7637-3.

Noise immunity will accept 50 V/m from 80mHz to 1000 MHz as per IEC61000-4-6.

Manufactured in ISO 9002 facility.
